Frequently Asked Questions
How do I change my location?
Tap the location pill at the top of the home screen. You can switch between your current GPS location and searching for any city worldwide.
Why is my weather not updating?
Long press the location pill at the top of the screen to force a refresh. Weather data updates automatically every 10 minutes, but a force refresh will pull the latest conditions immediately.
How do I cancel my Pro subscription?
Subscriptions are managed entirely by Apple. To cancel, go to
iPhone Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions → Run Ready Pro and tap Cancel Subscription. You'll retain Pro access until the end of your current billing period.
What's included in the free version?
The free version includes current weather gear recommendations, today's run planning, GPS location detection, and city search worldwide. Everything you need to gear up for your next run — for free, with no time limit.
How do I restore my purchase?
Open Settings in the app, then tap Restore Purchase. Make sure you're signed in to the same Apple ID that was used to originally purchase the subscription.
The app isn't showing my location
Make sure location permission has been granted. Go to
iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Run Ready and set it to While Using the App or Always. Then return to Run Ready and tap the location pill to refresh.
Safety Monitor
How does Safety Monitor work?
Safety Monitor uses NOAA GOES satellite data (Global Lightning Mapper) and National Weather Service alerts to check for lightning activity near your location. When you start a session, Run Ready checks periodically — using your current GPS coordinates — and notifies you if lightning is detected within 15 miles or if an NWS severe weather alert is active for your area.
Do lightning alerts work when the app is in the background?
Yes, when you grant Always location permission. If you allow Run Ready to access your location Always, Safety Monitor can continue checking for lightning even when the app is in the background and deliver local notifications. If you only grant While Using the App permission, monitoring is foreground-only — the app will let you know when that's the case.
Why does Run Ready need location permission for Safety Monitor?
Safety Monitor needs your GPS coordinates to check for lightning near your location specifically. Your coordinates are used only to query lightning and weather data — they are never stored, never used to build a profile, and never retained after your session ends. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Why might I not receive a lightning alert?
A few things can affect alert delivery: (1) Satellite lightning data (NOAA GLM) has a refresh cycle — there can be a delay of several minutes between a flash and when it appears in our data. (2) Background alerts require Always location permission and notification permission to be enabled. (3) A poor network connection during a check interval may cause a check to fail silently. Run Ready always shows the last checked time in the Safety Monitor panel so you can see when data was last successfully retrieved. Safety Monitor is a safety aid — always use your own judgment and seek shelter at the first sign of a storm.
How do I stop Safety Monitor?
Tap Stop Safety Monitor in the app. This immediately ends your session, stops location tracking, and deletes your session data from our server. Safety Monitor also stops automatically when a workout ends (if Health integration is enabled) or after a maximum of 2 hours as a safety net.
Safety disclaimer: Run Ready is a safety aid and not a substitute for your own judgment or official emergency guidance. Always seek shelter at the first sign of a storm, regardless of what the app shows.
